Manga/Anime Beauty - An Interview with hachiyuki

Manga/Anime / Digital Media / Drawings / Photoshop

Welcome to the third article of my interview series with talented Manga/Anime artists:heart:
This time, I invited a very well known and admired deviant on our community to talk, our dear hachiyuki! Her art is extremely appreciated due to her unique and outstanding style, the wonderful execution and original concepts of her and, obviously, her sweetness.
I've fallen in love with her gallery since the very first moment I saw it, and I'm sure you will too! So, let's start the interview once for all, and don't forget to drop by each of her works well-deserved love!

Please note: All the artworks featured on this article were chosen and commented by the deviant herself, and are considered by her her most meaningful pieces

:bulletgreen: Hi hachiyuki!  I hope you're fine.
So, why don't you start this interview telling us a bit about yourself to our friends?

Hello, yes I'm doing pretty good atm >u<
I'm currently 17 years old, and live in norway. my real name is marie but I perfer being called hachi. I'm really quite a plain person. I love caramel pudding, and according to my friends I have an unnormal obsession with cats.
batman is my hero, and I really dislike bugs and doctor appointments ;__;

:bulletgreen: Ok, lets start the interview for good. Tell us, why did you choose the Manga/Anime style as your 'arting' style to begin with?

The eyes maybe? to be honest I don't know xD I think it was just how simplified and stylish some pictures looked to me. it seemed simple to draw and gave me somewhere to start.

:bulletgreen: On the follow-up of this question, what is your story with Digital art, and why did you choose to work with this media? And when it comes to Traditional, do you work ever work with it too, or is only Digital?

When I was younger I loved creating fan characters, and I discovered people on the internet who'd made fan characters from the same show as me, only that their art looked amazing, with solid nice colours instead of the textured pencil colouring I had on mine. it almost looked like their characters belonged in the show, because they were able to mimic the style so well. I wanted to be able to do this too ofcourse, so I got myself a scanner and looked up some tutorials.
After a while I was fed up with the characters, I decided to go over to anime, and here I am.
I do traditional work very seldom, I wish I did it more thought, I'm too used with having an undo button OTL

:bulletgreen: Tell us: Traditional versus Digital, which one's your favourite media, and why? Also, what are the advantages and disadvantages you see on them?

I'd definatly say traditional. mostly because I find that most impressive.
there are many ways to ''cheat'' in digital art, with all the tools and effects, you also have undo button and layers.
I also love touching traditional works, to feel the texture of it, it has more dimention than a digital drawing ever will have. it's also more presentable, it has the disadvantage of being hard to share, the way you can with digital art on the internet, but I find that a bit charming too, it makes the original copy more valuble.

:bulletgreen: So, on the subject  'tools of the trade' . Which is your program of choice to do art, and why? Also, did you ever try working with other programs besides this one?

The program I use is photoshop 7. I think I use this mostly because that's the one I know best. I started out using paint shop pro, which is horrible, xD atleast for what I work with. I'm considering to try out paint tool sai, because I've heard it has better and smoother brushes (which I struggle a lot with in PS)

:bulletgreen: Now on the creativity field What inspires you to create, and where do you tend to get ideas from? Also, I'd like you to tell us a bit about 'external motivations'. Friends, family, etc., do they motivate you in any way, artistically speaking?

Seeing and hearing good art makes me want to make good art, I think (if that makes any sense OTL).
Music, movies and ofcourse other drawings and photography.
Drawing has always been something I did totally by myself.
I don't have a lot of external motivation, other than deviantart maybe...

:bulletgreen: As I couldn't leave out of this interview, now it's time to ask about Influences and inspirations!:dummy:  We all have them.  So, what are yours?  On and off dA. Tell us about them! :la:

I don't currently have any artists that I would call directly influencial. but I have had quite a few, redjuice999 has to me (as I see many other aswell) been a really big inspiration and influcion, I have a lot of old art that might remind you of him, in my own crappy way xD I've also been greatly influenced by neko sayori before.

:bulletgreen: On the topic of influences, what is the importance deviantART had to your art, since you joined this site as a member?

When I think about it deviantart might have been my biggest motivator of all.
it's kept me drawing in all these years, and I've made a lot of friends here too.
it makes me feel that someone care about my art, that I achieve something when I submit art that gets appriciated. I would probably not stop drawing now if deviantart were to dissapear, but I sure have a lot to thank it for <3

:bulletgreen: As we can see, you have already gotten a Daily Deviation. And, I am pretty sure, a lot of people who didn't yet, and even those who already have one or more, are curious to know about how others feel when getting this prestigious feature. So, how it felt for you? Did that help or motivate you in any way?

I've been a member of deviantart for several years, probably around 5-6 years, and I've dreamed about getting a DD since day 1. so you can imagen I was quite excited xD

:bulletgreen: As we cannot help but wonder, have you ever tried out working with other styles other than Manga/Anime?

I'm quite ashamed to admit it, but I have been drawing a lot of furry before I went over to anime. human wise I've never drawn anything but anime, I know it would probably benefit me a lot to practice realism, and I try to study some anatomy once in a while, but I don't think that is a style I'd enjoy drawing in. my goal is to get a semi-realistic style.

:bulletgreen: So, we are almost ending this interview. Before so, I'd also like to
ask: Have you ever considered doing art as a living or you intend to carry it on only as a hobby?

I can't imagine making a living off it. my personal goal with art is just to get recognition, I want something to remain after my death that people will still cherish. I wouldn't mind to make some money off it though, but only as a hobby beside another job.

:bulletgreen: Ok, that's it!:dummy: to finish this, tell us something random about yourself!:eager:

I want a pug ;__;

Thank you so much hachiyuki for your time to answer those questions! :tighthug:
I hope you all enjoyed it!
'Till next time:blowkiss:
